OCBC CYCLE SINGAPORE LAUNCHES FIRST-EVER LOCAL ROUTE EXPERIENCE BASED ON GOOGLE STREET VIEW AND CONTEST WITH KLM ROYAL DUTCH AIRLINES

OCBC Cycle Singapore today announced that they will provide 2010 participants with a unique route-viewing experience using real-life images from Google Street View for all OCBC Cycle Singapore rides and races, and in January will launch an on-line contest with the Official Airline for OCBC Cycle  Singapore, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.  This marks the first time that a sporting event in Singapore has used Google Street View on its website and as part of the event experience.

The website and contest were developed and designed by The Upper Storey, the digital agency handling all marketing creative for OCBC Cycle Singapore, which includes print, outdoor, and offline elements, as well as the digital campaign.
Once participants have logged on to www.ocbc.cyclesingapore.com.sg, they will then have the opportunity through Google Street View to experience the route of their selected ride.  Users will be able to navigate between routes of different distances and experience first-hand, the twists and turns involved in the various rides.

In January, during the second phase of this on-line experience, users will be able to log in to earn virtual miles and try and win the contest through a variety of exercises.

Chris Robb, Managing Director of Spectrum Worldwide, OCBC Cycle Singapore event owner and organiser said, “Spectrum Worldwide and OCBC Cycle Singapore are thrilled to be the first local sporting event to use Google Street View to provide participants with the ability to virtually cycle the routes before event day. Obviously they will see traffic on the streets as they ‘ride’ with Google Street View, but on event day the cars will make way for a traffic-free experience.  Street View will also give OCBC Cycle Singapore supporters an opportunity to find vantage points and see what the cyclists will tackle in March next year.”

Euan Wilcox, Business Director, The Upper Storey, “Google Street View for Singapore has been much anticipated and talked about, and we are happy to be one of the first agencies to make use of this great new API from Google for the local market. Being at the cutting edge of new technologies, especially in a web 2.0 world, is critical for a great digitally savvy agency.”

The 2010 event will take place on fully closed public roads and will reach maximum capacity quickly so those wishing to take part are advised to register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Participants should also check out the Event Charities section on the website to start raising funds for the official charities while getting fit and having fun.

For the second year, OCBC Bank is the title sponsor of OCBC Cycle Singapore, the largest mass participation cycling event in Singapore, and an event supported by the Singapore Sports Council.   In addition, a range of international brands that recognise the value of sports sponsorship are also providing support for OCBC Cycle Singapore 2010. They include Conrad Centennial Singapore (Official Hotel), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (Official Airline), as well as, other new sponsors Banana Boat (Official Sun Care Protection); Polygon (Official Bicycle), Schick (Official Razor) and Shimano (Official Components & Accessories).  Back for a second year are 100 Plus as the Official Isotonic Drink, 91.3 FM as Official Radio Station and F2P will once again provide the Official Cycle Wear.
